July 10, 2025The death of former Deputy President David Mabuza, scores of mourners have been making their way to his family home in Barberton to pay their respects. This has led to a surge in traffic on major roads including the R38, R36, and R40.
The Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, in partnership with GCIS Mpumalanga and the Office of the SAPS Provincial Commissioner, has called on all road users to exercise extreme caution during this period.
Motorists are urged to drive carefully and avoid actions that could lead to crashes or disrupt the flow of traffic. Those visiting the Mabuza residence are also advised to park responsibly and not obstruct roadways near the home.
Law enforcement agencies, including SAPS and traffic authorities, have finalised safety and traffic plans for the memorial services set to take place across three districts on 10 July 2025, as well as the State Funeral on 12 July 2025.
Authorities are preparing for high traffic volumes across the province and urge the public to be patient, vigilant, and cooperative throughout the week and weekend.
