Security Guards Foil Cash-In-Transit Heist

On May 15, an attempted cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery occurred near White River, Mpumalanga. A group of armed assailants targeted a cash van, leading to a shootout with security guards. During the confrontation, one suspect was fatally shot at the scene, while another sustained injuries and is currently under police guard receiving medical treatment.

Police recovered two rifles at the scene, and a Ford Ranger believed to have been used by the suspects was later found abandoned in Swalala near Masoyi. Preliminary investigations indicate that no money was stolen during the attempted heist.

The surviving suspect is expected to appear in court soon as investigations continue. Authorities urge anyone with information regarding the incident or the whereabouts of additional suspects to contact the South African Police Service (SAPS) or report anonymously through Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or via the MySAPS App.
