Ramokhuhlane Primary left incomplete after R8m project stalls

Learners at Ramokhuhlane Primary School in Dennilton are facing overcrowded and unsafe conditions after an R8 million infrastructure project was abandoned shortly after construction began.

The Limpopo Department of Education approved the project in May 2025 to renovate classrooms, demolish two dilapidated blocks and replace them with new structures. However, work reportedly stopped in June after building materials ran out, with the contractor allegedly instructing workers to stay away.

The site has since remained abandoned, leaving rubble, unfinished structures and open foundations. With two classroom blocks demolished, overcrowding has reportedly become worse.

Parents and the School Governing Body requested temporary mobile classrooms in January 2026, but say none have been provided. Some parents have reportedly moved their children to other schools due to safety concerns.

Members of the community have called for urgent intervention, accountability for the project and the provision of mobile classrooms.

The Limpopo Department of Education had not responded to enquiries about the stalled project and mobile classrooms at the time of publication.
