President Cyril Ramaphosa reassured South Africans on Wednesday evening that ongoing Cabinet discussions on the 2025 Budget will safeguard vulnerable citizens and lay the foundation for economic growth.

This follows the unprecedented decision to postpone Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana’s 2025 Budget Speech, originally scheduled for 2 PM on February 21, to March 12, 2025. The speech is a crucial moment where the government outlines its financial, economic, and social commitments.

In his statement, President Ramaphosa clarified that the delay was not due to disagreement but rather a collective decision within Cabinet to refine the Budget comprehensively.

“We are committed to pursuing all initiatives that drive economic growth, increase employment, and alleviate poverty,” he said. “In the coming days, the Government of National Unity will intensify efforts to balance economic priorities with the realities of a constrained fiscal environment.”

He further emphasized that the Budget must serve both individuals and investors, ensuring stability and sustainable development.
