R3.6 Million in Cash Seized in Mpumalanga Drug Lab Bust
Mpumalanga police have seized a staggering R3.6 million in cash hidden inside a vehicle linked to an illegal drug laboratory, marking a major breakthrough in their fight against drug-related crimes.
nnnnPolice Minister Senzo Mchunu confirmed the discovery during his recent visit to Standerton over the weekend. The operation, which forms part of an ongoing investigation, followed a tip-off that led authorities to several clandestine drug manufacturing sites in the province.
nnnnAccording to Minister Mchunu, law enforcement acted swiftly after receiving credible information. “A search warrant was sought and obtained, and when police raided the identified premises, they uncovered large quantities of chemicals, powder, machinery, and other equipment used in the production of drugs,” he said.
nnnnThe minister revealed that this was the third illegal drug lab uncovered as part of the investigation. The coordinated raids have resulted in the arrest of nine suspects believed to be connected to the illicit operations.
nnnn“These were not isolated incidents. All three sites were confirmed to be active crime scenes involved in large-scale drug manufacturing,” Mchunu stated. He emphasized that the police’s work is far from over, as the investigation continues to trace the broader network behind the labs.
nnnnThe seizure of millions in cash is expected to provide critical evidence, and authorities are hopeful it will lead to further arrests and the dismantling of the drug syndicate operating in the province.
