Prominent Ex-Kruger Manager Assassinated in Bushbuckridge

A well-known former hospitality manager of the Kruger National Park, Dr. Ezrom Mathumbu, was gunned down on March 5.

The shooting occurred on the R536 in Cork Village near Mkhuhlu at approximately 19:00.

Provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Donald Mdhluli confirmed the incident, stating that the SAPS is still gathering facts.

“We can confirm the assassination, but we do not have all the details yet. Once we have gathered all relevant information, we will provide an informed comment,” Mdhluli said.

Sources indicate that Mathumbu was returning from a meeting in Kruger when he was ambushed. Lowveld Media has verified that his family has been notified of his passing.

Mdhluli also confirmed that no arrests have been made so far.

Mathumbu was a highly respected figure in South Africa and internationally. In addition to his hospitality career, he was a pastor whose sermons aired on SABC’s Munghana Lonene FM, other radio stations, and TV.

From 1989 until South Africa’s transition to democracy, Mathumbu served as a minister in the former Gazankulu Government under Chief Minister Prof. Hudson William Edison Ntsanwisi, overseeing women and youth affairs.
