Man Arrested for Bushbuckridge House Robbery

A 38-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a violent house robbery and attempted rape that occurred on 25 May 2025 in Majembeni Trust, Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga. The suspect was apprehended on 27 May following a thorough police investigation.

According to reports, the 58-year-old victim was at home when two men arrived, claiming to be looking for her son. They forcibly broke down the door and entered the house. Inside, they demanded money; upon her refusal, they assaulted her and threatened her with a knife. One suspect attempted to rape her but was stopped by his accomplice. The assailants further assaulted her by inserting a knife into her private parts and cutting her before stealing her cellphone and fleeing the scene.

The victim managed to identify one of the attackers, aiding the police in their investigation. The arrested suspect is expected to appear before the Bushbuckridge Magistrate’s Court on 29 May 2025, facing charges of house robbery and attempted rape.

Acting Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr.) Zeph Mkhwanazi, commended the victim for her bravery and assured the community of the SAPS's commitment to combating gender-based violence. “We condemn in the strongest terms any form of gender-based violence. We thank the victim for her courage, and we assure the community that the SAPS will continue to act decisively against such horrific crimes,” said Major General Mkhwanazi.
