Limpopo Boosts Road Safety Ahead of Religious Gatherings

The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety has announced heightened traffic measures as thousands of visitors are expected to travel to the province for religious gatherings taking place from today until Sunday, 7 September 2025.

Traffic law enforcement officers have been deployed along major routes and critical intersections, including the N1, N11, R101, R81, R71, R579, R37, R36, R40, R528, R574, R516, R521, D4040, D19, R524, and R523, to ensure traffic flows smoothly and that motorists remain safe.

The department has adopted a zero-tolerance stance towards reckless behaviour on the roads, including speeding, drunk driving, overloading, and the use of unroadworthy vehicles. Motorists are urged to check that their vehicles are roadworthy, ensure all passengers wear seatbelts, and avoid fatigue or distractions such as mobile phone use while driving.

MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Violet Mathye, appealed to all road users to make safety their top priority. She stressed that drivers should exercise patience and care, and avoid speeding, fatigue, and overloading, which remain some of the leading causes of crashes.
