HAWKS SECURE R220,000 PRESERVATION ORDER OVER AUDI Q5 LINKED TO DRUG DEALING

The Hawks in Mpumalanga have secured a High Court preservation order over an Audi Q5 valued at approximately R220,000, following its seizure in a case involving the alleged dealing in dagga.

The vehicle was seized on 6 July 2025 during a stop-and-search operation along Sibange Main Road in Tonga. Hawks members stopped the Audi, which was occupied by three men, and obtained permission from the driver to search the vehicle.

During the search, officers allegedly discovered 23 compressed balls of dagga wrapped in brown sellotape and concealed inside a bag in the boot.

All three occupants were arrested and face charges of dealing in dagga. The Audi Q5 was seized and registered as an exhibit.

Following further investigation, the Hawks applied for the preservation of the vehicle as an asset allegedly linked to the commission of the offence. The High Court subsequently granted the order, preventing the vehicle from being sold, transferred or otherwise disposed of pending further legal proceedings.

Hawks Mpumalanga Provincial Head, Major General Nico Gerber, said the order demonstrates the Hawks’ commitment to targeting not only drug traffickers but also assets allegedly connected to criminal activities.

The investigation is continuing.
