Bushbuckridge SAPS Investigates R570k Carjacking

The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Bushbuckridge has launched an investigation into a carjacking incident that occurred on 3 June 2025, at approximately 10:30 AM, in the College View area near Mapulaneng College.

According to reports, the complainant was driving a white Toyota Hilux, a company vehicle used for parcel deliveries, when he was accosted by an unknown male suspect. The suspect pointed a firearm at the driver and instructed him to move to the back of the delivery van.

The suspect then took the vehicle keys and drove away with the complainant locked inside the canopy. During the drive, the vehicle stopped near a cemetery, where various parcels were transferred to another unidentified vehicle. The second car left, while the suspect continued driving with the complainant still trapped in the back.

The vehicle stopped again shortly thereafter, and the complainant heard the bonnet being opened. Through a small hole in the canopy, he observed the suspect running away while carrying the vehicle’s battery. The suspect then got into a nearby taxi and fled the scene.

Fortunately, the complainant was later spotted and rescued by his colleagues who were driving another company vehicle in the vicinity. The police were contacted and arrived promptly at the scene. A case of carjacking has been opened, and the stolen vehicle was recovered. The total estimated value of the stolen property is R570,000.00.

Police are urgently appealing to members of the public who may have any information that can assist in locating and arresting the suspect(s) to contact the Investigating Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Eurance Sibuyi, on 069 213 3294. Anonymous tip-offs can also be submitted via Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or the MYSAPS App. All information will be treated with the utmost confidentiality.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, strongly condemned the incident, stating: “This type of criminal activity is harmful to our economy. If such crimes persist, businesses may be forced to close, resulting in job losses. We urge communities to assist police by reporting those who commit these crimes.”
