Their parents separated when she was 8 months old and her brother was 2. The younger sibling was raised by her mother in Pienaar next to Nelspruit while her brother was raised by his father in Madras village next to Marite.
Both Pretty and Veli* say they never knew that they had a sibling out there; Pretty says her mother never mentioned anything about her having a brother and she always believed that she was the first born child.
The “couple” met in 2007 while studying at Tshwane University of technology in Nelspruit and got into a relationship.
When Pretty fell pregnant early this year, her boyfriend decided to do the right thing by paying lobola; the negotiations went well and none of the family members recognized each other, until last week Saturday when Pretty and Veli decided to introduce their parents to each other.
The great shock was when the old lovers recognized each other and had to explain to the newlyweds that they are in fact, brother and sister.
The couple didn’t believe that they were siblings and decided to do a paternity test which confirmed that they are in fact siblings.
Bushbuckridge News saw the paternity test results.
“I am still shocked, I can’t believe that I continuously slept with my brother and the fact that he paid lobola and I’m caring his baby, it kills me inside, what am I going to say when the baby starts asking me questions?” said Pretty in tears.
A source close to the family says that Pretty and Veli’s parents separated because their father’s family believed that their mother was cheating and they decided to keep the older child.
Both parents were not available to comment.
Veli on the other hand blames his grandparents for not telling him that his mother was alive and he had a sister.
