End of era as Morema is ousted?
The fourth annual conference of the ANC Bohlabela region was held at Mthunzi lodge near Hazyview, last weekend.
The conference marks one of the first annual regional conferences in the province, leading to the provincial and later the national congress in Mangaung 2012.
Milton Morema who had been the Bohlabela chairperson for two terms, was the only sitting committee member whose position was contested.
Morema together with the regional secretary, Mandla Ndlovu had had the support of the ANCYL in the region going into the conference.
Bohlabela region ANCYL secretary, Real Modipane had expressed support for the two, praising their leadership for unifying the region.
But Morema lost the fight to little known Gillion Mashego from Hlabekisa, Thaba Chweu.
The ANC Bohlabela region top five are;
Chairperson Gillion Mashego
Deputy Phineas Silowe
Secretary Mandla Ndlovu
Deputy Secretary Makhosazana Masilela,
Treasurer Renias Khumalo.
12 additional members, who were mostly women, were also elected.
In his maiden speech, the new chairperson condemned the abuse of power within the organization and asked committee members to respect their positions and serve members of the ANC without sidelining others.
Gillion Mashego was the chairperson of the Joe Makhebudu branch in Thaba Chweu sub-district and is the regional disciplinary chairperson of the ANC.
Mashego has worked as a PA to former MEC’s Dina Pule and Clifford Mkansi.
The former chairperson Milton Morema refused to comment to the press on his removal, only saying that his comrades have spoken by voting him out of the committee and admitted that he knew that some of the comrades wanted him out.
He also said that he is still a full time member of ANC and congratulated the newly elected regional leadership.
