A former drug addict is on a mission to encourage pupils to stay away from drugs and commit themselves to their studies.
Jacqueline Segooa was addressing pupils at environmental centre in Graskop on 10 February 2012.
The 33 year old mother of 2 and curriculum advisor at Bohlabela district says she started using drugs at the age of 16.
Segooa says she began abusing substances by inhaling benzene and petrol and later started to smoke dagga and she says at that time she I didn’t see anything wrong with her drug habit.
The now clean Segooa says she used to carry benzene to her class, without her teachers’ knowledge.
For the young Segooa, going to class without taking a bath was a norm, so was disrespecting her teachers and starting fights at school.
Ultimately, Segooa began abusing alcohol.
“The result of taking drugs is always bad, I lost a friend and I nearly lost my parents, and I stopped to go on my period at the young age because of drugs.”
“I experienced a lot of problems because during my pregnancy my mouth and fingers changed from their original colour.”
Segooa asked students who have started or those who are still thinking of taking drugs to reconsider as there is no future in them, some will lose their lives, while others will have their futures destroyed.
